Trigun Stampede spoilers for the whole season

Player Name: Sra
Contact: themightysra @ plurk / Sra#0855 @ discord
Pronouns: She/They
Invited By: Kabby and also Spoon

Character Name: Vash "Babygirl" Trigun
Character History: Does this work? It's hard to find a Stampede-specific Vash history but you know what if you shake Spoon a little bit I think any info you need will fall out.

Canonpoint: Episode 11, near the beginning of the dream sequence.

Guild Choice: Wanderers Guild - He'd be tempted by the Menders' guild but ultimately he would try to do something more immediately within his wheelhouse so that he could be useful right away. And even without any particular magic, Vash is accustomed to wandering Noman's Land. He doesn't really trust that he can stay in one place for long without putting people in danger.

Element Choice:
1. Dark - he's sort of a black hole anyway (unclear) and enfeeblement is a non-lethal disabling technique so he might be inclined to learn about it
2. Light - would be a fun way to tool around with trying some trimax-flavored abilities
3. Earth - literally a Plant

Canon Powers:

  • Vash's left arm is cybernetic and aside from functioning mostly just as a normal arm, it can shoot a little grapple tether line that lets him climb up to high places. It's also stronger and more durable than a normal arm, but can crack under sufficient force.

  • There are these things called Plants, which are a sort of... synthetic eldritch construct that connects to another dimension in order to provide specific resources, like electricity, clean water, or gravity. Vash is an Independent - a Plant that was born with a soul (ie. a sense of free will). He can't produce resources like other Plants, but retains the ability to connect to the "higher dimension" where other Plants get their resources via his Gate. This is mostly bad.

  • He has superhuman youth/longevity (Vash is over 150 years old but looks like he's in his early 20s), superhuman healing abilities (though he still scars like a human and can't regrow limbs), superhuman speed, reflexes, agility, endurance, hearing, and some measure of superhuman strength. In theory, he doesn't strictly need to eat, but he does get hungry and he has mostly normal human requirements. Generally speaking, he relies mostly on his wits and his exceptional skill as a marksman, or non-lethal disabling techniques when all else fails. He's often pretty clever about getting out of tough situations without violence towards other people. (Property though... RIP to your whole town.)

  • Vash also has some game-breaking powers - at this point in the anime, the only ones shown are the various horrible ways his Gate can manifest. The first was an accidental manifestation of a mini black hole of some kind, which resulted in his brother, Knives, cutting off his arm to prevent it from consuming everyone. The most recent was when Knives deliberately connected to Vash's Gate, resulting in a giant plant gundamn manifesting from Vash and the ensuing conflict destroying the entire city-state of July. Vash has no ability or desire to harness or control any of his destructive Plant abilities - I think it's safe to say they'd be inaccessible in game as their only function is basically uncontrolled massive destruction.

Character Wish(es):

  • Wants humans to stop killing each other for like, five minutes at least, but preferably forever.

  • Wants his brother to come around to the idea that humans aren't awful and are worth saving.

  • He'd love to just settle down and live a perfectly ordinary life without having to worry about his brother trying to kill literally every person he comes into contact with. He'd just hang out and help people with ordinary problems. That's his dream.

Character Fear(s):

  • Really doesn't want to lose his memories of everyone he's ever loved and become a catatonic conduit for the destruction of humanity but uhhh...

  • People finding out exactly what he is and what he's capable of and what he's done

  • People getting hurt or killed for the sole crime of getting between him and Knives

  • Humanity going extinct because of Events that he feels deeply responsible for

  • If Vash admitted to having one single negative feeling about anyone other than himself he would spontaneously combust

Strengths & Weaknesses: (3) max of each, max 500 words total.

Strengths

  • Vash puts on an appearance of being very easygoing and even kind of pathetic. He has that sad wet puppy charm. He's friendly and cheerful, and makes a point of remembering everyone he encounters in a lot of detail. He's generally a sweet, likeable guy who does his level best to be helpful.

  • He's a lot sharper than he might seem at first blush. He's good at reading people and situations, even if he generally does so with rose-colored glasses, seeing mostly the best in anyone he meets. Vash often knows when he's being manipulated or lied to, but is just as often willing to go along with it because he thinks he can coax some inherent goodness out of everyone. And to his credit, he sometimes manages to do just that! For Vash, any chance that things might work out is one that he's always willing to take. He strongly believes that no one is inherently evil or beyond redemption and that circumstances are largely responsible for the horrible acts that people commit. To that end, he refuses to end a life, or let anyone around him end a life, and is a staunch pacifist for better or worse.

  • Vash can't abide seeing someone in need and doing nothing, and will involve himself in any and every Situation with complete strangers for nothing at all, just because they needed help.

Weaknesses

  • Not even a single drop of self-preservation. Vash thinks he deserves every horrible thing that ever happens to him and also thinks he's responsible for every horrible thing that ever happens to any human being. This is partly because he unwittingly helped Knives orchestrate the crash that led to humanity scraping by on their shitty desert planet, but in a lot of ways Vash was this way before the crash, too.

  • He can't even conceive of himself as being worthy of anything if he isn't being useful to someone, and if he thinks he's failed or gotten someone else hurt, it easily leads to passive self-harm, like not eating. Vash will do absolutely anything to make himself useful and earn a modicum of tolerance, and will take any outright and direct harm if he thinks that 1. he deserves it or 2. it reduces the harm perpetrated toward someone else or gives the person the chance to come around to redemption. He thinks his whole reason for existing is to be of service (and to an extent, he thinks that he has to make up for existing).

  • Vash's pacifism often causes as much harm as it prevents, and people call him out on this fairly often. It leads his friends and allies to take up arms to attempt to defend themselves, and to defend him or whatever cause he's thrown himself behind (which is every cause). He often doesn't have a good answer for how to get himself out of the trouble he gets into, and the people around him tend to pay the price for his inflexible morals and unwillingness to defend himself. There are multiple instances in which Vash gets through to someone who has lived a life of abject violence and it leads to a worse outcome instead of a better one.

Sample: Working on one here.
